Abstract

This research aims at studying the Zowzan territories and the role they can play in foreign relationships of Kharazmshahian. Zowzan -e-Khaf was one of the greatest cities of the Kharazmshahian state. Zowzan territories were of greatest territories in Kharazmshahian period. They played a considerable role in political development of kharazmshahian. The main question of the research is: "What role did the Zowzan territories play in foreign relations and political events during the Kharazmshahian era?" The research was conducted as a library study using a descriptive-analytical method. The research results indicate that, Zowzan, located at the intersection of Harat, Neishabour, Quohestan and Firouzkouh (Ghour District) was of importance for Kharazmshahian who wanted to dominated on Khorasan and Southern part of Iran. they try to balance the power relationships in Khorasan and attract their followers' loyalty through new centers in Khorasan, especially in Zowzan. Furtheremore, they wanted to have a through control on their competitors and keep their domination trend in Khorasan ans Southern parts of Iran. Dominating the economic and commercial interests of Quohestan, of which Zowzan, Tun, and Gonabad were important centers, were the centers of cotton and silk fabrics production, and important trade routes passed through them, was considered one of the strategic policies of the Kharazmshahian and Ghourian. Kharamshahian succeeded to both demise the Ghourian control in Zowzan and dominate Salghari Atabakis in Fars by occupying Kerman. In addition, they spreaded out their territories from Persian Gulf to Oman Sea and got more financial supplies.
